In more detail, you’ll avoid burnout and you’ll be a lot more happier. What? You already made the reservation? Good for you. Now, all you have left to do is start preparing. You have the itinerary and the reservation. What else should you do? If you really must know, there are plenty of things that you must do before leaving on vacation. This is the complete list of things to do. Make sure to do these things before heading off.

Rent a self-storage unit

It has been a while since you traveled, so you’re planning on making the most of your trip. You want your beloved family members to have a good time, meaning that you’ll not be back anytime soon. You’re going away for 2 weeks, but if things go well, you’ll extend your stay. Taking into consideration that you and your family will be out of town for a long period of time, you might want to find a safe place for your valuable belongings. The fact is that thieves target empty homes, like yours. Yes, burglars take advantage of empty homes, not occupied ones. If you have happened to post details about your upcoming trip or tell your friends, you should be worried. Your possessions are at risk. Anyone can break into your home and steal.

You want to have peace of mind, so do the smart thing and rent a self-storage units. There are storage units near you, so that shouldn’t be a problem. A self-storage unit is a cost-effective solution. Most importantly, your items will be safe while you’re traveling.  Storage units accommodate just about anything, ranging from cars to expensive tech gadgets. It’s impossible to bring your stuff with you, so the only option you have is to rent a self-storage unit. Rent a storage unit and drop off your items ahead of time.  You can use self-storage even when you’re traveling for business purposes.

Arrange for pet care

No matter how much you would like to, you can’t take your dog with you. Very few commercial airlines allow you to travel with your pet. Additionally, the experience will be traumatic for the poor pup. You are better off leaving your best friend at home. Well, not exactly. Sure, you will be leaving the four-legged friend behind, but you have to arrange for accommodation. If you’re certain that your friends aren’t capable of taking good care of your dog, then consider a boarding facility. A boarding kennel is the solution to your problem. This kind of facility provides your pet the best possible experience. Basically, you can enjoy your family vacation knowing that your best friend is in good hands.

The thing is that not all boarding kennels are equal. This translates into the fact that you have to choose carefully. You love your dog very much. In fact, you treat the pooch as if they were a family member. Well, you have to choose a boarding facility with the same consideration that you would choose a place to send your kids. The best thing you can do is ask your veterinarian for a recommendation. Professionals always know what the most reliable places are. It’s not a bad idea to visit the kennel before making arrangements. Get the chance to see how the pets are treated and what conditions there are offered.

Don’t forget to empty the refrigerator

Your spouse and kids have been waiting for this trip for a long time. It’s normal in all the excitement to forget about important things like emptying the refrigerator. Should you, really? If you have loaded the fridge with tons of supplies, then you should better empty it. what could happen if you leave the food inside? Well, besides the fact that it will go bad, the odor it gives off is highly unpleasant. The fact is that you should not let food in the refrigerator for more than 10 hours, no matter the situation. What you have to understand is that certain sources of nourishment, like meat and vegetables are very sensitive and they spoil fast.

Once you have removed the sensitive items from the fridge, adjust the temperature. The temperature should be somewhere around 3 °C. The temperature is ideal for canned food and cereal. As for the temperature of the freezer, change it to – 20 °C. If you know for a certain that you’re not coming back any time soon, forget what was mentioned previously and proceed to turning off the refrigerator. Home appliances cause some of the most destructive fires and, being a family person, you can’t afford to take the risk. Unplug, turn off, do what you have to do. There is nothing more important than the safety of your home. And that of your family.

Turn off all the appliances

You may be in a hurry to catch the plane, but this doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t make time for unplugging the appliances. If you and your loved ones will be gone for quite some time, then you should really shut off the circuit breaker. If your vacation doesn’t exceed 2 weeks, then it’s not necessary. But you do have to turn off major appliances, such as the air conditioner, toaster, coffee machine, TV, and so on and so forth. Why? Because there’s no way of knowing what can happen while you’re gone. The devices won’t waste electricity. That’s not something that you should worry about. What you should worry about is electrical fires. Your home can go up in flames. You don’t want that, do you? Just to be on the safe side, turn everything off. You don’t need to use the thingamajigs anyway.
