ABC television is a network created in 1943 from the former NBC Blue radio network. Its first broadcast occurred in 1948 and as one of the Big Three television networks it has greatly contributed to the American culture. However, when the Walt Disney Company became the owner of ABC in 1996, operating it through the Disney ABC Television Group, its destiny changed forever.
Television history is a complex and convoluted one, because it occurred at the same time in various places; scientists and researchers from England, Germany, Russia, Japan, America and others, all started working on things that would lead to the invention of television much at the same time.
Public television and radio, as they exist today, are mostly based on what is known as the British model; this was implemented by the British Broadcasting Corporation in the 1920s and it aimed to inform and engage citizens, to focus on good programming and to appeal to the general interests and tastes of the people.
