One Direction: This Is Us
Documentary and Music

One Direction: This Is Us is one of the new movies out this week from director Morgan Spurlock, starring Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Zayn Malik. This documentary focuses on the lives of Niall, Zayn, Liam, Louis, and Harry as they rise from their small hometown and become famous after competing on the X-factor. Interviews with the band member’s parent are included so the viewer gets great insight on their personal life and how fame affects their loved ones. Although the girls adore the band, there is not much in the way of drugs and sex when the band goes on tour.

Action and Crime

Getaway is one of the new movies out this week with an interesting distribution. It is written by Sean Finegan and Gregg Maxwell Parker, directed by Courtney Solomon and acted by Ethan Hawke, Selena Gomez, and Jon Voight. Brent Magna, a former race-car driver commanders the car of a young woman and races against time to save his wife who has been kidnapped by an enigmatic villain. The idea of a car chaise through the streets of Bulgaria, a city with an exotic coolness is interesting, although not executed very well. Many scenes are shot at a narrow angle and don’t allow the chase to flow.

Closed Circuit
Crime, Drama and Mystery

This movie is directed by John Crowley, written by Steven Knight and features Eric Bana, Rebecca Hall and Jim Broadbent. Two ex-lovers are bound together by an unexpected terrorism case, testing their loyalty and limits. Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall have a good chemistry and performance. This exciting thriller is very realistic and beautifully crafted, keeping the viewer on the edge until the last minute.

Crime, Drama and Mystery

Passion is One of the most intriguing new movies out this week, written and directed by Brian de Palma and acted by Rachel McAdams, Noomi Rapace and Karoline Herfurth. The story begins with the rivalry between the boss of an advertising agency and her protégée that quickly escalates. It is De Palma’s first movie in five years and it is somehow a throwback to his old thrillers. The acting is not that impressive and most casual viewers will find it somehow without substance.

The Lifeguard
Drama and Romance

Liz W. Garcia is the director and writer of The Lifeguard, a new movie out this week that should definitely bring her name forth for real quality work. Kristen Bell, Mamie Gummer and Martin Starr are the stars of this convincing story of early middle-age indecision. A former valedictorian returns home after her career collapses and gets a job as a lifeguard. She starts an illicit affair with a troubled teenager, causing a chain reaction.
